Our Foundational Values
Guided by faith and integrity, Rooted In Deen is built on principles that prioritize safety, transparency, and the sanctity of marriage.
Transparency
We believe in clear communication and honest representation. Everything is facilitated with full transparency to ensure trust from the start.
Accountability
Our verification process holds all members to a high standard. We protect our community by uncovering facts and fostering accountability.
Faith-Centered
At the heart of Rooted in Deen is the belief that marriage is part of a broader spiritual journey and, in Islam, considered half of one’s deen. Rooted in Deen was created to encourage strong, faith-centered Muslim families through Islamic reminders, personal reflection, community support, and values-driven resources designed to promote healthy relationships and intentional growth.
Safety First
We prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of our members. Our process is intentional, structured, and designed to encourage respectful interactions, transparency, and a supportive experience for everyone involved.
Our Why
This platform was created from both personal conviction and a deep concern for the Muslim community. Our founder, Sydnee, recognized a growing need for spaces rooted in honesty, emotional awareness, transparency, Islamic values, and meaningful community support.
As a Certified Peer Support Specialist, therapist in training, and active member of the Muslim community certified in Psychological First Aid, Sydnee has spent years serving in spaces centered around emotional wellbeing, healing, and community care. She has volunteered with Muslim organizations throughout the community and currently supports mental health and emotional wellness initiatives with Melanated Muslim Sisters of the Valley in Arizona.
In today’s world, many Muslims are navigating important life decisions while seeking sincerity, trust, guidance, and faith-centered support. Conversations surrounding emotional health, accountability, healthy relationships, family wellness, and personal growth are often overlooked despite their importance within strong communities and homes.
As Sydnee was building the vision for Rooted in Deen, a meaningful conversation with Dr. Aneesah Nadir deeply impacted her perspective.
During a walk held in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, their conversation touched on marriage, family, trauma, and the realities affecting many children and households today. In the middle of that conversation, Dr. Nadir shared a reminder that stayed with Sydnee:
“Prevention is key.”
That simple but powerful message became a defining part of the mission behind Rooted in Deen.
Today, Rooted in Deen exists to encourage healthier relationships, emotional awareness, accountability, personal growth, safety, and stronger foundations rooted in faith and intention. Through education, reflection, community support, and values-centered resources, the goal is to help foster healthier individuals, families, and communities.
We believe healthy homes begin long before the nikah. Our founder strongly encourages marriage education, self-reflection, emotional wellness, and personal development resources, including the work of the Before the Nikah Institute and the book Before the Nikah.
This mission is also deeply personal for the communities we serve. Sydnee noticed that despite the large and growing population of Black American and African Muslims in the United States, many still seek spaces that feel supportive, intentional, and culturally understanding. As a Black American Muslim woman married to an Ethiopian Muslim man, she understands both the beauty and unique experiences within these communities. She created this space to serve with care, dignity, and intention while welcoming Muslims from all backgrounds.
As Sydnee says, “We also deserve happy homes.”
